I got interested in learning about and helping Polio because of my mom who does work with helping Shot@Life to teach people about diseases that kill millions of kids around the world. (We are lucky to have the vaccines here in the United States, but other children in places like Africa are not so lucky).
Things I learned about Polio from reading Small Steps:
- That you could end up in a iron lung (breathing machine- Back in the 1940’s, before a vaccine for polio was created).
- Polio patient were not allowed to dink anything with milk because it made mucus in their throat but Peg didn’t care and was able to drink a milkshake instead of water, apple juice or 7 up.
- Never give up! Peg never gave up on trying to get better and trying to walk for her favorite doctor, which inspires me to do social good.
Donate to Shot@Life to help end Polio and other diseases.
